What is the ACMG?

The ACMG is an acronym for the Association of Mountain Guides, a member country of the IFMGA (International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations). Once an ACMG member completes the 3 disciplines in the Mountain Stream (Ski, Rock and Alpine), they become a member of the IFMGA. This is the highest certification for Mountain Guiding worldwide.

What is the IFMGA?

The IFMGA is an acronym for the International Federation of Mountain Guide Associations. It is the governing body for the profession of Mountain Guiding worldwide.

Why should I hire an ACMG Ski Guide?

Guides certified by the ACMG have been trained to the highest level of risk management worldwide. They have also been trained and examined on ski ability, route finding, navigation and client care, so you can expect a high level of service. It is competitive just to get into the ACMG training program, as prospective candidates have to submit a long list of personal recreational experience including winter camping and skiing on glaciers.

Is it safe to ski on glaciers?

With appropriate training and experience, you can ski on glaciers with relatively low risk when conditions are suitable. You can take a Glacier Travel Course to learn how to travel on glaciers without a guide, including how to rescue someone from a crevasse.

What is an AST course?

AST is an acronym for Avalanche Skills Training. Avalanche Canada has developed the AST curriculum to teach recreational backcountry users how to minimize their risk in avalanche terrain. There are currently 2 levels, AST 1 and AST 2.

What is The Ultimate Everything Course

The Ultimate Everything Course combines an AST 2 course, Glacier Travel Course and The Art of Up-tracking Course. This course is based at a remote lodge for 7 nights and is fully catered.

Is there an AST 3?

Avalanche Canada does not currently offer an AST 3, but there are equivalent courses available such as the Advanced Avalanche Course.

Is there a dry tooling crag in Revelstoke?

Yes, the Big Eddy (Skxikn) Crag is located on the Westside Road, a couple of minutes drive from downtown Revelstoke.

Where is the Burnie Glacier Chalet?

The Burnie Glacier Chalet is a short helicopter flight West of Smithers, BC.

What is the terrain like at the Burnie Glacier Chalet?

The Burnie Glacier Chalet has large alpine glaciated terrain, peaks, couloirs, and tree skiing. Basically it has a little bit of everything, it’s awesome.

Where is Mt Waddington?

Mt Waddington is the highest mountain in the Coast Mountain Range in Canada. It is located to the West of Williams Lake and North of Vancouver.

Can you ski Mt Waddington?

The North West summit of Mt Waddington is a great ski mountaineering objective, and you can ski from the summit if the snow is soft enough. It is normally completed from a camp on the Dais Glacier.

Can you ski in Peru?

How much does it cost to hire a Ski Guide?

An ACMG Ski Guide usually costs $695 to hire for the day, depending on what’s included/excluded.

How do you rescue someone from a crevasse?

Rescuing someone from a crevasse usually required building an anchor and pulley system. You can learn about how to do this in a Glacier Travel Course.

Is there rock climbing in Revelstoke?

Yes, Revelstoke has hundreds of routes, both single and multi-pitch. You can hire a guide to show you around or teach you how to rock climb.

Is there alpine climbing in Revelstoke?

Yes, Revelstoke has a huge variety of alpine climbing in the surrounding Selkirk and Monashee Mountain Ranges. It is also not far from the Bugaboos. You can hire a guide to take you up a mountain.

How do I learn to trad climb?

Learning to trad climbing is not very forgiving when it comes to mistakes. It’s smart to learn from a certified guide who has experience teaching people how to place natural protection. A good place to start is an Intro to Trad Course or Intro to Trad and Crack.

How do I find a guide in Revelstoke?

Gearys Guiding is available to hire for ski touring, rock climbing, ice climbing and alpine climbing.

What is an AST 2

The Avalanche Skills Training Level 2 (AST 2) Course is an intermediate level avalanche course. The curriculum is standardized by Avalanche Canada.

Can you ski in Ecuador?

Yes, you can ski on the 4 highest volcanos in Ecuador; Antisana, Cayambe, Cotopaxi and Chimborazo.

Can you ski Chimborazo?

Yes you can ski from the summit of Chimborazo (6268m) in Ecuador.
