IS THE ROCK RESCUE COURSE FOR YOU?

Rope ascendingIf you already climb multi-pitch rock routes (or want to start), but are not sure about what to do when things don't go as planned, then this course is for you.

For example, you miss a rappel station at Waterworld and find yourself and the ends of the rope dangling above the water. Instead of calling SAR for a rescue, this problem is easily solved by ascending the rope back to the station above.

LOCATION

Revelstoke is a great location to learn about rock rescue due to the short approaches and steep rock.

OBJECTIVES

Learn basic rock rescue skills:

  • Escaping the belay
  • 3:1 hauling system
  • Rope ascending
  • Tandem rappel
  • Lowering

There will also be time for you to ask questions and for us to learn how to solve various common problems, such as what to do when your rope gets stuck on a multi-pitch rappel.

I took a partner rescue course for multipitch rock climbing with Alex in 2019. It was my introduction to a bunch of basic rope maneuvers. Fast forward a few years and I've climbed (and will keep on attempting) a bunch of cool routes, and I now work as a rope access technician, applying stuff I first learned during Alex's course (albeit in a slightly different context) everytime I abseil for work. His instruction was very comprehensive and his pedagogy very effective. I had a great time that day and would definitively recommend Geary's guiding for anyone wanting to further their mountaineering skills.
