Mera Peak route overview

Mera Peak Ski Expedition

Our Mera Peak Ski Expedition (6476m) is an excellent choice for skiing in the Himalaya of Nepal due to it's ease of access and relatively straightforward glacier. It is a beginner level trekking peak, which makes it perfect for skiing and your first high altitude experience. From the summit you can see 5 of the worlds 6 highest peaks including Sagarmatha (Everest), Cho Oyu, Kangchenjunga, Lhotse and Makalu.

After flying into Lukla (2800m) from Kathmandu, we will start our trek towards the Hinku valley, the opposite direction to most people headed for Everest Base Camp. During our trek to Mera peak, we will have time to enjoy the local culture and acclimitise as we travel over several high passes.

This trip will be organised and run by Adventure Consultants, who have been organising expeditions in Nepal since 1991. I chose them to run this trip because I find them very organised, professional, and well connected in Nepal.

Guides - Mera Peak

This ski expedition will be led by Alex Geary, in conjunction with Adventure Consultants. I have previous expedition guiding experience in Nepal on Ama Dablam and Lobuche East with Adventure Consultants. Mera Peak is normally guided at a high ratio due to it's lack of technical difficulties. However, as we will be on skis, we plan to have Madeleine Martin-Preney join us as an assistant guide, so there is more than one guide on skis (our Sherpa support team will be on foot).

Prerequisites - Mera Peak

  • Previous ski mountaineering experience, including the use of ski crampons, boot crampons and an ice axe.
  • Ability to descend slopes on skis up to 40°
  • Good fitness to manage long days at high altitude.
  • Able to perform uphill and downhill kick-turns.

Altitude - Mera Peak

Previous experience at high altitude is NOT required. We understand that everyone reacts differently to high altitude and needs time to acclimatize. Our itenerary is gradual enough for most people to adjust.
